Are Your Friends Pushers Or Pullers

p24-1I Just got off the phone with my buddy Bedros talking about how lucky I feel to have such an awesome group of friends.

Any time I need business advise, I just bring it to the group and PRESTO, I get my answer.  Hell, just about every conversation makes me thousands of dollars.

There's an old saying that goes, if you hang out with 9 broke friends, you'll become the 10th  broke one.

On the other hand, if you hang around with 9 wealthy friends, YOU'LL BE THE 10th WEALTHY ONE.

That's why  I feel so friggin lucky...

Why re-invent the wheel or try to figure out everything yourself.  NO WAY... Not me, I'm WAY too lazy for that.  Why would you spend hours on something when you could just hit speed dial and get the answer?

Plus, my bro's are all a bunch of marketers like me, and that's good cuz if I start talking about conversion rates, killer copy and force multipliers with anyone else, they just give me the "who farted face."

And the best part is that my group is always telling me "I can do it!!"  They pump me up and make me feel like I can literally do ANYTHING.

Yep, the dudes I hang with are defiantly "pushers"

p24-3On the other hand, I've seen (and experienced) people choosing the wrong groups - People who pull them down.  Tell them they can't.  Friends who deep down are scarcity minded and believe that your success will TAKE AWAY from theirs.

I call those types of people "Pullers" cuz they try to pull you down to their level.

So make sure that you are constantly surrounding yourself with "pushers" and kick those "pullers" straight to the curb!

  • What are you going to do next to surround yourself with more "Pushers"

    Great post man - This is SO Important.

    Right now I only have 1 "pusher" friend, and she's a realtor with 3 kids.

    I 'fired' my previous girlfriend...most definitely a "puller".

    And to get more "pushers" in my life...for one I'll be using the law of reciprocity.

    For two...I'll just have to become SO successful that the pre-established "pushers" can't possibly ignore me.

    I honestly closed my mind off to these kinds of ideas for a long time. After all, some of my friends I've known since 1st grade! How could they possibly be "pullers" or negative people?

    But, the time came when I was ready to jump all out into my new business. Things became crystal clear. There was a few guys who just questioned everything, cried about the economy, and told me things wouldnt work out for a million reasons.

    Shortly thereafter, they were fired.

    Hey Steve,

    I've relutcantly come to the realization that the people I've positioned around me to be pushers were in fact MAJOR PULLERS! As a result of this I've had to slow my business down, re-think many of the ideas I've had, then hit the pavement running again... I can't stress enough the importance of having positive, constructive people surrounding you... These people may not necessarily share your dreams & visions, but they will NOT stop you from obtaining them either! Building my tem up again... this time truly for the better!

    By they way... ALL OF YOUR INFO ROCKS!!!!

    I just stumbled upon your page via Bedros'. Talk about a pusher! He ROCKS! & clearly, so do you! I currently have 2 Pushers in my life 1. my personal trainer/coach - does not allow negativity (from people, to thoughts/words) anywhere near him, even mine. He sees the gold in me & has knows just how to bring it out!
    2. my FANTASTIC friend MLM - he wholehearted believes in me! He makes me believe I can do ANYTHING is set my mind to do!

    I currently have about five pullers around me. Unfortunately, they tend to look through the lenses of fear and are so afraid that I may fail that they don't really encourage me to try.

    It's difficult to kick pullers to the side when you're from a close knit family and you're accustomed to them being your support system. As far as my puller friends go, they can kick rocks. I'm still trying to work on the family piece. Any advice would be most helpful.

    Hey Dawn,

    I totally know how it feels to have pullers in my family... When I decided to drop out of college to pursue my fitness business, my Mom kinka freaked out and kept trying to convince me to go back... Here's my advise to you. Let your family know how much their support means to you and how good their positive feedback feels. Then every time they give you even the tiniest positive support, praise them and thank them and tell them how much it helps... Just let the negative stuff roll off and focus on praising them for the positive stuff.

    As for the puller friends... Consume yourself with your dreams and the things you have to do to make them a reality... Naturally you wont have much time for puller friends who are not on your same path... You'll attract new pushers into your life who will help push you to the top!

    I like the post! I find that the other trainers in my gym are pullers and have a hard time thinking out of the box.
    That is why they will be stuck in the franchise gym setting having the club take 70% of their sales, while
    I begin my own company!!

    i have tried to tell my parents that I needed a business coach like you steve--- you have mentors working with you and that is EXCATLY what i need so much today. I can't stand negativity and yes it does pull you down! THat is like rotten in hell. so, my mother has always worried about my finances-- yes, i have finace problem since i have been trying to make anywhere 70k-100k--- since she has been talking on my back-- drove me crazy! not too supportive! the more she talks about it and the more debt i get in. right?? she doesh't know that. so, if she was the other way around-- i bet i would have a pusher to be lifted up so high that i never thought i could be a millionire.
    i have read jack canfield's book secret of success and one of the things he said that he can not allowed anybody to hang around with him who is full of negativity! I totally agree with him.
    I have quit watching politics -- it is full of BS!! i stop talking about religious--- too much arguement. I just pray alot and the more i pray peacefully - the better i feel. we don't need to talk about what we don't want...we need to be talking about WHAT I WANT IS THIS.....( your list) and start focus on it.

    So true! A year or two ago I began restructuring m time around things i wanted to do instead of just haning out with the same people that always did the same thing all the time (work for the man and complain about it). Since then I've realized who my tru pushers are. Im lucky to have a handfull. My dad always talks negative, but he truely believes i can and will succeed (he tells everyone he talks to I will succeed). He just wants to make sure i cover everything lol. My mom thinks Im the greatest gift lol. Unfortunatly she's not so confident in herself. My cousin is bringing friends to my boot camp, and then I have a handful of best friends who are all telling me "it's about time! You've been talking about getting s training studio for 9 years now! How can we help?"

    I've kicked a couple friends to the curb and put "do not answer...EVER" in my phone book. Now I feel so much momentum! I wish I had done this 9 years ago, but what's done is done. Now I just gotta roll faster to the top than I ever imagined.

    Your so right on this topic. The world is full of both "pushers" and "pullers". In fact I was surrounded by more pullers than pushers about 2 months ago. Fortunately I finally found more pushers and I am trying to let go of those pullers. I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am ready to go full force now with life and I am not letting anyone or anything get in my way.

    Hey Jeff,
    You don't need a list at all... When ever I open up a new boot camp it's in a new area that I haven't marketed to yet, so I usually don't have a list.
    Here's how to EASILY explode your boot camps to 6 figures in 3 months without a list and hardly spending a die on marketing...

    1. Use my Human Billboard System
    2. Use My Referral Mind Control Networking System

    about human billboard... what is the trick for opening line when you walk up to the person that i don't know but i do want her to join my boot camp or speed camp ( talk to the parent of the child). and also, what do I need to do on the referal mind control networking system...

    Great post Steve!

    I couldn't agree with you more. I have seen this first hand in so many ways that it makes me sick to think about it sometimes.

    The "Pushers" in my life are my family, my girlfriend, a couple of my great clients, and a few of my close friends.

    I've never really been one of those guys with a ton of friends and it makes sense because I refuse to even associate with "Pullers" and it's sick how many of them are out there. Most recently I just Fired my job and my boss "Huge Pullers" to start my own business and start rockin some Boot Camps with your help!

    To attract more "Pushers" I am attending FBS09 with all of you guys and then attending Fast Track to Fitness Millions in the end of May. At both of these events I am going to get a unique chance to network with hundreds if not thousands of "Pushers" in our industry and I plan on having as many "Pusher" friends and associates as possible by the end of them!

    I can't wait!

    Hey steve,

    I tryed setting up a 10 person human billboard system. Got ten "very excited people" to do the billboard system with me from craigslist.

    Then started camp and noone showed up. I dont know. do you recommend going to businesses and finding billboards?

    I have yet to register for fbs09 sadly. I think its booked now though isnt it?

    Hey Jeff,

    Not sure how you got your 10 (It needs to be 20 - that's the magic #)
    but here are a few common mistakes - any of these can throw the whole thing off...

    1 Do not give out your biz card.. that doesn't count... you must get names and numbers...

    2 you need to email and cal them daily until your camp to make sue they are still hot

    3 craigs list people are good, but they ae he MOST flaky... cuz all they had to do was say yes to an ad... No commitment... If you use craigs list you need 50 yeses (which isnt to hard to get with the right ad)

    4 Call and email everyone you know.. the mre people at your camp.. theh more energy....

    It will do that bro...

    It get s way easier each time!

    well I was saying ten to make it "smaller" but really going for 15-20 people. I posted up again but gave requirments and a deadline to email back before.

    I will be sending an email to everybody I know and contacting everybody I know.

    Plus calling, emailing and everything once I get all names, numbers and emails.

    Hey Jeff,

    Here's one more tip (especially for CL peeps)
    If your boot camps really early n the morning,
    Set up a time to meet all the CL billboards before
    the boot camp opens to do assessments and goals...But make it
    at a really accessible time... Not super early... That way they can meet you and commit in person...

    What would you suggest for setting up a mastermind group like what you're in?
    I've thought about this for a while to get the most out of myself and be surrounded by positivity....

    Would you recommend it be local based only?
    Is your group marketing exclusive?
    How did you get involved in the group? By invite? And what was the process for setting up? Any criteria?

    I definitely want more pushers in my life, focusing on the PT business, small business and marketing but wondering how exclusive to make it.

    You even have the ones that aren't necessarily pullers but they just don't do much of anything.

    Right now I just got ride of my puller friends that used one used close friend, unitil i realized he wasn't a true friend, so I'm staying away from them,
    and finding a new group of Positive people
    I'm going to surround my self with people i know i can trust
